How to Prepare for a Photoshoot — The Complete Guide

For many people, a photoshoot feels like a high-stakes event — you want to look your best and come away with natural shots. The good news: with the right preparation, anyone can get photos they'll genuinely love. Drawing on Emma Studio's experience, here is our complete guide.
Your wardrobe is one of the biggest factors in a successful shoot. Choose clothes you feel comfortable in and that flatter your body type. Steer clear of loud patterns, large logos, and neon colors — they pull attention toward the clothing instead of your face and emotions. Solid colors in dark or pastel tones are ideal. Bring 2-3 outfits so you have options during the session.
When it comes to makeup, our advice is simple: less is more. A natural, “no-makeup” look works best for a photoshoot — light foundation, defined eyes, and a lip balm. If you've booked a Premium or VIP package, our professional stylist will take care of you on site. And get a good night's rest beforehand — lack of sleep shows around the eyes right away.
On the day of the session, come relaxed. Pick out music in advance that puts you in the right mood — at our studio, you can play your favorite songs through the speaker. Bring water and a small snack, especially if your session runs longer than 2 hours. And don't be afraid of posing — the photographer will help you every step of the way, and any awkwardness melts away within the first 10 minutes.
One important detail: if a session time works for you, book it in advance. Emma Studio's calendar fills up fast, especially on weekends and in the evening hours. We'll do our best to accommodate your schedule.
