## For clients visiting from abroad
Emma Studio works regularly with tourists, expats and visitors from abroad. These are the questions we get asked most often.
- **English-speaking sessions** — The photographer speaks English throughout the entire session - no interpreter needed. Communication before booking is in English too, by email, WhatsApp or phone.
- **Shoots at Tbilisi locations** — Beyond the studio we shoot on location around the city: Old Tbilisi, Narikala, Rike Park, the Dry Bridge and others. The location is agreed in advance; outdoor shoots may carry a small travel fee.
- **Express delivery in 24-48 hours** — On a short trip? You can receive your photos while you are still in Georgia. Express delivery in 24-48 hours costs 150 GEL. Standard turnaround is 3-10 business days depending on the service.
- **International payment** — We accept foreign Visa / Mastercard / American Express cards at the studio, online payment by TBC Pay or BOG iPay link, international bank transfer, and cash. All prices are in Georgian Lari (₾, GEL).
- **Booking and rescheduling** — A 30% deposit confirms the booking; the balance is due on the day of the shoot. Rescheduling is free with at least 48 hours notice.

## About the studio
Emma Studio began in 2018 — one small room, one camera, and one simple wish: to make photographs that would still hold up ten years later. Photos that aren't just a “pretty Instagram shot,” but ones that bring something back — that particular day, that particular mood, that particular person.
Eight years on, we've shot more than 1200 projects — from weddings to a newborn's first portraits, from corporate videos to restaurant food photography. Each one has its own story — and behind every single one stands a real person.
We've kept the team small on purpose. There are seven of us — photographers, a videographer, a retoucher. Not a hundred, not fifty. Because we want to know every client personally and give every project our undivided attention. Scale was never the goal.
Honestly? We love this work. The moment a child bursts out laughing right into the lens, or a mother holds her newborn for the first time, or a father can't hold back tears at a wedding — those are the moments that have kept us at this for eight years.

## Booking, payment and policies
These terms apply identically to every service.
**How do I pay — what payment methods do you accept?**
We accept cash, bank transfer, card payments at the studio (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), and online payments via TBC Pay and BOG iPay. A small deposit (30%) is due at booking; the balance is paid on the day of the shoot or when you receive your photos.
**Where are you located? Is there parking?**
Emma Studio is located at 70 Al. Kazbegi Avenue in Saburtalo, at the Vazha-Pshavela and Kazbegi intersection, right next to City Mall. There's free parking in front of the building - for larger groups we can fit 2-3 cars together. It's a 5-minute walk from Delisi metro station.
**What if I need to reschedule or cancel?**
Rescheduling is free with at least 48 hours' notice. For last-minute changes or cancellations, the deposit is non-refundable — your date was blocked and we couldn't take another booking. In cases of emergency or health issues, we approach things reasonably.
**What's included in the price — are there hidden fees?**
The price you see on this page is final. It covers the shoot, hand editing, high-resolution photo delivery, and an online gallery. Additional services (large-format printing, photo albums, rush delivery) are priced separately and agreed in advance.

### Brand Photo Style - Why a Beautiful Photo Isn't Enough

A company calls: we have a new product line, we need photos. We shoot, we deliver, every frame looks good on its own. Two weeks later the marketing manager writes - "the photos are good, but somehow they don't sit right in the feed."
This is the single most common problem in commercial photography, and it is almost never the photographer's hand. The reason is that nobody told anyone, before the shoot, what rules the brand actually has.
#### Photo style is part of the brand, not a matter of taste
A brand is not a logo. A brand is the combination of colours, typefaces, tone of voice and - the part people forget most often - photo style.
Think about it for a second: a customer looks at your logo for a fraction of a second. They look at your photos for minutes - scrolling the feed, on the website, in the catalogue, in ads. Which means photography does more work on how a brand is perceived than the logo does.
When the photo style is undefined, every shoot comes out differently. One is warm, on a wooden surface. The next is cool, on white. The third is dark and contrasty. Individually all three are good; together they look like three different companies.
#### Colour - where it falls apart most often
Say the brand identity is cool: deep blue, grey, white. The photographer shoots the product on a warm wooden surface because it feels "cosier" that way. The frame is beautiful, and next to the brand it is a stranger - as if borrowed from someone else.
This is not an argument about taste, it is a technical issue. The colour of the surface reflects onto the product: a warm wooden surface turns the white parts of the product yellowish, a cool grey turns them blue. Correcting that fully in retouching is only possible at the cost of image quality.
The practical conclusion is simple: the photographer needs the brand colours **before the shoot**, as HEX codes and not as words. "Blue" is fifty different blues.
#### What the photographer needs to know before setting up the lights
- The colour palette in HEX codes - primary and secondary
- The character of the light: hard shadow and contrast, or soft diffused light
- The backgrounds the brand works on, and the ones it does not
- Props and atmosphere: minimalist emptiness or a full, lived-in frame
- What must never appear in frame - often the most useful list of all
Those five points are the content of a brand book. If you already have one, just send it over and the shoot will run twice as fast. #### Space for the logo and the text
This is the part most clients remember only after the shoot.
On a banner, a cover or a story, the photo carries a logo and a caption. The designer cannot place the logo where the photographer left no room - and covering the product or a face is not an option. So we always shoot the key frames wider than the final composition requires: one side is deliberately left empty.
The second detail is contrast. A thin, light-coloured logo simply disappears on a bright, busy background. That is why in a serious project the logo is never a single file - it is a system of versions: primary, monochrome, inverted, and simplified for small sizes. #### One shoot, three formats
The same frame goes to three different places today: horizontal on the website, 4:5 in an Instagram post, 9:16 for stories and Reels.
If the composition is built exactly for the horizontal frame, in the vertical version the product either gets cropped or sits so awkwardly that it needs a separate shoot.
Avoiding this is easy: the main subject belongs in the central zone of the frame, with margin left at the edges. We deliberately shoot the key frames in both orientations - on the day of the shoot that is five minutes, later it is a whole new session.
#### Who is responsible for what
People mix this up often, so we spell it out.
The designer creates the rules: palette, typography, the direction of the photo style, references. The photographer translates those rules into technical decisions: which light, which background, which lens, which angle. The retoucher makes sure a hundred frames match each other in colour, rather than each one being "nicely edited" on its own.
Honestly: the photographer should not invent the brand rules, and the designer should not dictate the aperture. When that boundary holds, the project runs calmly.
#### If you don't have a brand book yet
Small businesses often assume this is a sixty-page document and that it is too early for one. In reality, one page is enough for a first shoot:
- 3-5 colours with HEX codes
- Two typefaces - one for headings, one for body text
- 5 reference photos for "we want this" and 5 for "not this"
- One sentence on the character of the brand: strict and minimal, or warm and folk

When people talk about building a photo studio, everyone thinks about cameras and lighting. A Profoto head, one more lens, a new softbox. In reality, the thing that shapes a studio's daily work the most sounds far more boring: the furniture and fittings.
Emma Studio started in 2018 with a single room. In 2020 the newborn zone was added, then the video side. At every stage the same lesson repeated itself: gear you buy, furniture you have to build. What follows is the accumulated experience of setting up a studio space.
#### Furniture that ends up in frame
In an ordinary flat furniture has one job - to be used. In a studio it has a second: it appears in the frame. That changes everything.
A table a child sits on is seen from the camera on both sides - the front panel and the side. Which means the furniture has to be finished on every side, not just the "façade". Screw heads, an unfinished edge, a factory logo on the back panel - all of it shows beautifully in a 50-megapixel frame and costs us time in retouching.
The second detail, which we tend to learn late: **glossy surfaces are hostile**. Gloss reflects studio light like a mirror and leaves white patches in the frame. Every wooden surface here is matte, with no lacquer.
The third is colour. Light wood or pale grey furniture leaves skin tones neutral. A bright yellow or red surface bounces light back in that same colour and puts a strange cast on a child's face. That is why the studio palette is deliberately boring: white, light oak, grey.
#### Why off-the-shelf furniture does not work
This is the stage where almost every studio gets it wrong at least once - we did too.
Ready-made furniture is built to the logic of a standard flat. A dining table is 75 cm high because a person sits at it. For product photography the table needs to match the working height of the tripod, so the photographer is not standing hunched over for two hours. That is 90-95 cm, not 75.
The same goes for depth. A background roll is 2.7 metres long and 10-12 cm in diameter when rolled. A normal cabinet cannot hold it vertically, and horizontally the wall is not long enough. You need a narrow, deep, tall section - the kind you simply will not find in a shop.
That is exactly why most studio furniture is made to order. One practical note: "modifying" ready-made furniture almost always ends up more expensive than having it built correctly from the start. We tested that twice before we believed it.
#### The newborn zone - a different set of rules
Photographing newborns imposes its own requirements on furniture, and here there is no compromise.
- Every corner rounded. Not "almost", genuinely rounded.
- A surface you can wipe with a damp cloth. A newborn session is a series of unplanned clean-ups.
- Material with no smell. The sharp smell of new board has to be gone within a week, which makes E1-class board and quality edging a matter of principle, not marketing.
- Solidity. A basket, a blanket and a parent are on the same surface at once - it must not wobble.
Our newborn zone opened in 2020 and its furniture was built to exactly those four conditions. It still works as if it had been installed yesterday.
#### Cake smash and the things that get washed every session
The logic of a cake smash is simple: the child destroys the cake, we photograph it. For furniture that means cream, fruit and moisture land on the surface at every session.
Ordinary laminate does not survive a single season here - the edge swells and the layer peels off. Moisture-resistant board and a properly finished edge are not a comfort in this case, they are the service life.
#### The product and food table
For product photography the table has to meet three conditions: the right height, stability, and an interchangeable surface.
Stability is critical, because during a long exposure even a slight wobble of the table blurs the frame. We chose a heavy frame fixed to the wall - a free-standing table always moves.
An interchangeable surface means we lay different textures on top of the same table: light wood, concrete effect, white acrylic. One structure, five different backgrounds for food and product work.
#### Storage - the part that never appears in frame
This is the most underrated part. A studio's inventory keeps growing over time: backgrounds, softboxes, reflectors, newborn props, seasonal decor, a rail for the outfits clients bring.
If none of that has an assigned place, the studio turns into a warehouse within two months and half an hour gets added to the preparation before every shoot. Here is how we solved it:
- Narrow vertical sections for background rolls
- Deep drawers where light modifiers lie flat
- Closed fronts. Open shelving looks great on Pinterest; in a studio it collects dust and creates visual noise in frame.
- A built-in rail for the 2-3 outfits a client brings to the session
#### What the process looks like in practice
If you are building a working space of your own - a studio, an office, a salon - the sequence looks roughly like this.
First you write the scenario, not the furniture. Where the camera stands, where the client comes in, where the photographer sets up the lights. Only after that does it become clear what size and height of furniture you need.
Then comes measuring on site. In most buildings the walls are not perfectly straight, and a 2 cm difference becomes a problem when a cabinet goes in. That is why serious workshops send a specialist first and only then start the design.
The next stage is 3D visualisation. This is the moment you see that the planned cabinet blocks a window, or that the walkway narrows - before production, not on installation day.
