Newborn Photoshoot — What Parents Need to Know

Welcoming a newborn is one of the happiest moments in any family's life — and those tiny fingers, delicate features, and sweet fragility change so quickly that the magic often slips away before parents realize it. A newborn photoshoot is the best way to hold on to these fleeting, unrepeatable moments. At Emma Studio, newborn photography is our specialty, and we want to share every important detail with parents.

The ideal window for a newborn session is 5 to 14 days old. During this period, babies sleep more deeply, curl naturally into those adorable poses, and their skin is still wonderfully soft and tender. Babies older than two weeks are more alert and wiggly, which makes certain poses trickier — though beautiful photos can be taken at any age. We recommend booking your session in advance, while you're still pregnant; the exact date is confirmed once your baby arrives.

Safety is our highest priority. The studio is heated to 26-28 degrees during the session so your baby can sleep comfortably. Every prop — baskets, fabrics, hats — is cleaned and disinfected beforehand. The photographer keeps a hand on your baby at all times and never leaves them unattended. And some of those seemingly “risky” poses are actually composites — created by layering several photos together, so your baby is completely safe throughout.

Here's what parents should bring to the session: plenty of diapers and wet wipes, a change of clothes for your baby, formula or whatever you need for breastfeeding, a favorite pacifier (if you use one), and — if you'd like — a meaningful family prop, such as baby's first toy or a gift from the grandparents. The feeding schedule sets the pace of the shoot: we never rush, and we feed, soothe, and change your baby whenever needed.

A newborn session typically lasts 2-3 hours, though much of that time goes to feeding, soothing, and easing your baby into sleep. We encourage parents to relax and enjoy the process — have a coffee, read a book, or simply take a well-deserved break. The package includes individual portraits of your baby with a variety of props as well as family shots with parents and siblings. Your final retouched photos are ready within 2-3 weeks.

A newborn photoshoot is an investment in memories that only grow more precious with time. Just imagine how much it will mean to your child, years from now, to see these tiny, perfect portraits of themselves. At Emma Studio, we welcome every newborn with extraordinary love and professionalism.
