Before booking a wedding videographer, couples usually want to know two things: the price and the portfolio. Both matter, and neither answers the questions that surface a month after the wedding. Why can't we hear the vows. Why did two hundred lari appear on the invoice. Where is the shot of grandmother crying.
Video differs from photography in one thing: sound. A ruined frame can be cut out; ruined sound kills the whole scene. Below are eight questions to ask before signing, and more importantly, what a good answer to each looks like.
Why before the contract and not after
A wedding does not repeat. If the videographer does not put a microphone on the ceremony, nothing fixes that afterwards, neither in the edit nor in court.
So these questions are not a sign of distrust. They protect both sides. An experienced videographer will answer them gladly, because agreeing on expectations in advance serves them too.
1-2. Price and what gets added
What is included, and what appears on top? A good answer is specific: how many hours, how many people, what you receive at the end.
What happens if the wedding runs long? This is the most common extra cost. Ask for the overtime rate as a number, not as "we'll agree on it". If the answer is vague, the vagueness will reach the invoice.
How to judge the answer: ask them to break the price into line items - shooting hours, people, editing, music licensing. If the quote is a single number in a single sentence, comparison is impossible, and this is exactly where "that is charged separately" appears later.
